Stephan Durach

Stephan Durach was born in Hausach, Schwarzwald in 1971. From 1991 to 1997 he was graduating as an electrical engineering at Technical University of Karlsruhe. Already in 1998 he started to work for BMW AG in Munich. He started at BMW Group Electronics and Software and then changed to BMW Group Product Line BMW Luxury Class in 2013 in the role of Vice President Electronics and Driver Experience. In 2015 he became Vice President Purchasing, Information and Communications and later he was responsible for Purchasing and Supplier Network Electric and Electronics as Senior Vice President. Since 2020 he acts in the role of Senior Vice President Connected Company, Development Technical Operations.

Peter Gräf

German Space Agency at DLR

Dr. Gräf is Director for Applications and Science at the German Space Agency at DLR. The Directorate includes the Departments of Earth Observation, Satellite Communications, Space Science, Research and Exploration, and Innovation and Emerging Markets. The German Space Agency implements the Federal Government's space strategy, integrates German space activities at national and European level and represents German space interests worldwide on behalf of the Federal Government. Dr. Gräf is biologist by training and received his PhD in natural sciences. He is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and member of the International Astronautical Federation’s (IAF) Technical Committees.

Antonio Franchi

Head of the Space for 5G and 6G Strategic ProgrammeEuropean Space Agency (ESA)

Antonio Franchi is the Head of the ESA’s 5G and 6G Strategic Programme in the Connectivity and Secure Communications (CSC) Directorate. He also Leads the CSC Automotive Connectivity Working Group.
Antonio has over 30 years of experience in the satellite telecommunications industry. Prior to ESA, Antonio worked for over 20 years with a major global satellite operator, spearheading a new generation of satellite communications systems, covering various technical and managerial responsibilities for design, development, implementation and operation of advanced satellite systems and networks.
Antonio received an MSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Rome and an MBA from the London Business School. He is author of 30+ articles and papers published at international conferences and professional magazines and he holds six international patents in the satcom field.

Celine Laurent-Winter is the Vice President of Connected Vehicle Platforms at BMW, with over 15 years of experience in software development, mainly in the driving dynamics, navigation and e-mobility fields. She has been instrumental in leading innovation and technological advancements in connected cars, ensuring that BMW remains at the forefront of the industry. In her current role, Celine leads the development of the connected vehicle platforms, enabling worldwide premium vehicle connectivity.

 

Celine holds an engineering degree from the EPF in Paris and a PhD in Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich. She is expected to share her insights about the future of connected cars and its impact on the automotive industry.

Gianaldo Mantovani

Gianaldo Mantovani is since January ’24 Director of Telecommunication Satellites at OHB System in Bremen, Germany. He has been part of the OHB Group for almost 8 years now, working first as a Managing Director at the Luxembourg-based affiliate LuxSpace and later for 4 years as a General Manager at OHB-Italia in Milan.
Before joining the OHB Group, Gianaldo worked some 13 years for the telecommunication satellite operator SES in different leadership roles, both in technical areas and business development, being located in Luxembourg, Germany and the United States.
Prior to SES Gianaldo worked as a Consultant for ESA at ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) and ESOC (Darmstadt, Germany) on Earth Observation and interplanetary missions.
Gianaldo graduated from Universita’ La Sapienza (Rome, Italy) as an Aerospace Engineer and is married with two children.

Stefano Scarda

European Commission, DG DEFIS

In the European Commissions’s Directorate General for Defence Industry and Space, he deals with the implementation of the European space policy, in particular for governmental satellite communication and the new initiative for the European secure connectivity constellation (IRIS²). He worked in the past in organisations such as the European Space Agency, the European satellite navigation agency, and has worked also in the aerospace industry. His tasks included international relations, space applications, management of research funds, and system engineering. He participated in the studies for the definition of the Galileo system. He holds a Master Degree in Electronics engineering from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Johannes Springer is responsible for the 5G Automotive Program at Deutsche Telekom.

In 1998 Johannes joined Deutsche Telekom Group in various management positions. He worked as CTO/COO for Toll Collect, and he was VP Technology and Solution Design in Connected Car Unit at T-Systems.

Johannes represents Deutsche Telekom in various organizations. Esp. in 5GAA (5G Automotive Association) he is engaged in various projects and working groups. Since 2018, he is acting 5GAA Director General.

Hermann Ludwig Moeller

European Space Policy Institute (ESPI)

Hermann Ludwig Moeller joined the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) in Vienna in September 2022. As its new Director, he is leading the European Think Tank on Space, responsible to develop approaches to European Space Policy and provide recommendations to European decision makers and institutions. Prior to joining ESPI, he held leading positions at ESA in the creation of EU Copernicus and in the preparation of the EU Secure Connectivity initiative as Head of Telecommunications Strategy, Programme and Transformation Office and as Head of Copernicus Space Segment Office. In these functions, Mr. Moeller has been operating with high level leadership in a complex multi-stakeholder policy environment in public-private partnerships with industry, at EU level, with EUMETSAT and with national space agencies and delegations.

Olaf Eckart is responsible for R&D Cooperations and Industry Customers at BMW. He is one of the founding members of the Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) Core Team at BMW. Moreover he also leads a global Initiative within the 5G-Automotive Association (5GAA) to integrate NTN into Terrestrial Networks since June 2022. He has received a degree of economics from the Technical University in Dresden in 1997. In 1999 he started his career at BMW, specializing first in the development of new mobility services. Later on he became an expert in building and operating successfully cooperations between BMW and other OEM.

Francesco took the degree in Electronic Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin.
In 1997 he was hired at FIAT Research Centre as a technical expert of Terrestrial and Satellite-based Navigation systems, Car Navigation systems and Digital Maps for road navigation.
He has more than twenty years of experience in Electrical/Electronics and Connectivity systems of innovative concepts by managing pre-developments programs.
Currently Francesco is the Global Head of Advanced Connectivity in Stellantis.
Francesco seats in the board of 5G Automotive Association (5GAA). He is also member of the Technical Scientific Committee of the Competence Centre Cyber 4.0.

Katrin Bacic

Katrin Bacic is CEO of the German NewSpace startup UNIO. In her role, she leads the development of Europe's first commercial satellite constellation, focusing on cutting-edge automotive and broader mobility applications.
Previously, she was Managing Director at Wayra Germany, where she headed all startup programs. Prior to this, Katrin Bacic spent more than 15 years in various management positions at Telefónica, mainly in business development and innovation. Besides Germany, she has lived and worked in Spain and Hong Kong.
As a public speaker, mentor, and author, as well as a member of various juries, she advocates for diversity in the startup and tech ecosystem.

Guillaume Scottez

Guillaume joined Eutelsat Group as a Director of Strategic Projects in September 2015 and was nominated Director of Innovation and Corporate Venture in 2022. He oversees the selection and development of transversal Innovation projects in cooperation with the Space ecosystem and he explores investment opportunities in innovating startups of the Space sector.
He started his career in 2004 as a Strategy consultant at Arthur D. Little. He then joined Hachette Livre as the Director of Digital Education in 2011.
Guillaume is French. He graduated from HEC Paris with a Master in Management in 2004.

Berthold Panzner is Standardization Chief Architect for connected mobility at Nokia, where he is leading standardization activities for cellular V2X technology. He is a passionate technology enthusiast, who driving Nokia’s strategy & industry engagement for tomorrows world of connected vehicles. He has over a decade experience in telecommunications since he joined Nokia in Munich/Germany.

He holds MSc and PhD degree in telecommunications from University Magdeburg/ Germany and University Linköping/Sweden.

Spectrum and Regulatory, European Space Agency (ESA)

Frank Zeppenfeldt works in satellite communications group of the European Space Agency (ESA). Frank has been initiating several activities in IoT, M2M, automotive, and 5G via satellite, and also looks after spectrum and regulatory aspects.  


Before that, Frank worked on satellite communications and security for NATO and was responsible for the network architectures in operational deployments and various military technology exercises. Before that, Frank was working in EUMETSAT (European Organization for Meteorological Satellites) and was responsible for the ground segment network for some of the METEOSAT satellites.

Jaroslav Holis is currently working as a Senior Manager in Group Technology at Deutsche Telekom. He completed his Ph.D. in Radio Network Engineering. He joined Deutsche Telekom shortly after graduating and worked on LTE, LTE-A and pre-5G network development. His specialization is in Radio Access Network, especially in antenna techniques, interference coordination, proof of concepts and field trials. He is currently working on 5G networks evolution towards 6G “3D” networks and also driving DT NTN program.

Javier Albares Bueno

Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU)

Javier is Head of Programs at the Smart Network and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU) of the European Commission.
Previously, he worked as Head of Telco at Here Technologies, a location technology firm with focus on Automotive. He also collaborated in 5GAA, as Vice-chair of working group 5 (future business models). Between 2013 and 2021 he worked for GSMA, the world’s largest telecoms association, as Director of Innovation (Brussels) and Director of Strategy (London). During this time, he worked to identify future sources of value and opportunities for industry collaboration in the transition to 5G. Before, he worked for 13 years at Telefonica-O2, as Director of strategy, mobile services and alliances, both in Europe and Latin America. He started his career as Telecom analyst for HSBC Investment Bank in London.
Javier holds an Advanced Management Program from INSEAD France, an MBA from IESE Business School and a double bachelor’s degree in Business Science and Economics from ICADE-Comillas Pontificia University. He has also completed programs on Innovation Management at IMD and on Artificial Intelligence at MIT Sloan.

Andreas Knopp

Andreas Knopp is a German professor of satellite communications technologies. Since 2015, he has been the Chair Holder of Signal Processing and the Director of the Munich Center of Space Communications research facility at the Bundeswehr University in Munich. In addition, he is now a chairperson of SPACE, the largest German interdisciplinary research center on space technologies. In 2020, Prof. Knopp became a board member of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and in 2023 he was appointed as a Senator of DLR. He is an advisor to the German Ministry of Defence, and a Visting professor of Naval Postgraduate School Monterey (CA), USA. He is also a member of the expert committee on radio systems in the German society of information technologies (VDE/ITG), and an IEEE Senior Member.

Prof. Knopp holds a master’s degree in information technology (2002) and a Ph.D. in wireless communications (2008), both from the Bundeswehr University Munich. In 2010, he received an Executive MBA degree from Gutenberg School of Business Mainz.

Klaus Michel

Klaus Michel is Vice President and Head of German National Programmes for Airbus Defence and Space, based in Munich, Germany. Since joining Airbus Defence and Space in 2019, he has contributed to many telecommunication missions both on payload and equipment level with a special interest in optical inter-satellite links, quantum key distribution and 5G/6G use cases.
Prior to joining Airbus Defence and Space, Klaus was in charge of strategy and sales for Tesat-Spacecom, a leading provider of RF and optical equipment to the satcom industry.
Klaus holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Sensor technology, both from the University of Rostock, Germany.

Rainer Wansch

Head of RF and SatCom Systems Department

Fraunhofer IIS

Rainer Wansch is Head of the RF and SatCom Systems Department at Fraunhofer IIS. He graduated as Electrical Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) from the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1995.
Since 2011 he is leading the RF and SatCom Systems department and is responsible for more than 25 researchers in the fields of satellite system design, high-speed digital platforms, antennas and RF circuits. Department projects include integration of satellites in 5G (NTN), narrowband M2M satellite communication, wideband satellite transmission projects which use DVB-S2X Superframing technologies and the Fraunhofer On-Board Processor project which provides an OBP for the German Heinrich Hertz-satellite mission.

Dipl.-Math. Bärbel Deisting is Director of Space and Space Applications at bavAIRia e.V, the Bavarian Cluster Aerospace. Moreover, she is the German ESA Business Applications Ambassador, was member of the Scientific Committee of the Navis Centre in Hanoi and Vice-president of NEREUS the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies. She received a degree in Mathematics from the LMU and was working until 2012 for ISTA, Universität der Bundeswehr München, ITIS e.V. and ITIS GmbH. There she was working in the field of GNSS and Galileo and was involved in national as well as in EU projects. She was a member of organizing committee of the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit until 2012. Furthermore, she has an apprenticeship as mediator.

Franziska Zeitler

After her studies in economics and architecture Dr Franziska Zeitler worked for scientific foundations as expert for political research and consulting. In the following eight years as leading business consultant, she gained methodical knowledge in Innovation and Knowledge Management. Since 2005 she supported in the Technology Marketing Department at DLR the market launch of scientific technologies (Road2Market) with processes, methods and tools.
Since 2015 Franziska Zeitler is head of the department Innovation & New Markets at German Space Agency at DLR. She was the initiator of the INNOspace© initiative and built it up with great commitment since 2014. The INNOspace initiative promotes innovation and cross-sector technology transfers between space and non-space industries. These synergies and networks are also a key driver of commercialization and the New Space economy. Another focus of her work lies on the promotion of space-based start-ups and the coordination of the German ESA Business Incubation Centres.

Frank Bensch

Head of the German JCB Delegation, Satellite Communications

Space Agency at DLR

Dr. Frank Bensch is the head of the German Delegation to the ESA programme board for satellite communication and supports the German government in the EU Govsatcom program committee. At the satellite communication department of the German Space Agency at DLR, he heads the group on European programmes.He received a degree in Physics at the University of Heidelberg in1986, and a PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Cologne in 1999. Following a Post-Doctoral Position at the University of Cologne, he spent 3 years as scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA, USA. Returning 2004 to Germany and following a 3.5-year term as senior Post-Doc at the Argelander Institut for Astronomy, he joined the satellite communication department of the Space Agency at the DLR in 2007.

Teodora Secara

Teodora Secara is responsible for Strategic Partnerships and Business Development in the Connectivity and Secure Communications Directorate at ESA. For the last 16 years in the space industry, Teodora has been building innovation ecosystems linking non-space market verticals with space service providers, space infrastructure manufacturers and operators, as well as R&D organisations, as a pre-requisite to commercial success. Furthermore, Teodora has been advocating for public and private investments in and financial instruments for space, designed to support the sector as a strategic, critical asset for Europe. Teodora holds a Master's degree in European Studies from Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne and Master's degree in International Trade from the Nantes University, France.

Xavier Priem

Director of CELTIC Office

Xavier Priem brings with him over 28 years of Innovation experience, from research to portfolio management, across Industry, RTOs and Academia. He joined EURESCOM in December 2020, taking over the role of Director of the EUREKA CELTIC-NEXT Cluster in March 2021. On behalf of CELTIC-NEXT Management and Core Group, his mission is to develop the strategy, lead and further develop CELTIC-NEXT to one of the strongest European Innovation fostering instrument. He holds the CELTIC Roadmap, operations, relationships with the Eureka National Authorities, and the management and development of strategic partnerships with other Clusters and Funding Organisations like the European Space Agency.
Xavier’s interests are the definition of mid and long-term vision paths for ICT technologies and Services, and the development of research, funding and partnering strategies to enable this vision. His focus is the alignment of current and future ICT technologies, as well as the required public and private associated funding, with the development and launch of innovative, disruptive and sustainable business models and actions, such as Connectivity as a Utility, enabling all vertical industries and communities.
Xavier holds a MSc in Physics and an MBA with a specialisation in Innovation Management. Xavier is a recognized Innovation and Business Development Manager.
